A container is the file wrapper, such as MP4 or MKV. A codec encodes the picture or sound inside it. Playback depends on both.
| Output | Common Use | What to Check |
|---|---|---|
| MP4 / H.264 | Everyday video playback | Audio codec, resolution and your player’s requirements |
| HEVC / H.265 | More compact video at a chosen quality | Decoder support in the target player |
| AV1 | Modern video delivery | Encoder availability and target decoder support |
| MKV / MOV / WebM | Editing or playback workflows | Which codecs the destination application accepts |
| MP3 / AAC / Ogg Vorbis | Compressed audio | Quality settings and player compatibility |
| FLAC / WAV | Lossless audio output | Source quality and storage space |
Other Available Targets
The reviewed application also includes AVI, WMV, MPEG-2, 3GP, FLV, SWF and GIF targets. Preset availability can be filtered by input compatibility. A listed format is not certification for every device.
Hardware Is Conditional
H.264, H.265 and AV1 hardware encoding is checked at runtime. Availability depends on the exact encoder, GPU, driver and selected settings. Software encoding remains an option.
